While the abundance of invasive species can be seen as a direct threat
to Dolphin Head's endemic biodiversity, the Trust has identified a
means to promote sustainable coexistence between human and
environmental needs.
Bamboo is an invasive specie, which propagates quickly in areas that
have been cleared for agriculture. Given the amount and extent of agricultural lands found throughout the parish, there is also a significant amount of bamboo.
To support its conservation and alternative livelihoods work, the Trust has been able to develop a bamboo conversion and utilization facility, which currently employs 12 persons from the parish.
